One Last Thing

Today is Alex Cole’s birthday. Perhaps lost in a journeyman career that spanned just 7 major league seasons and only 573 games, Cole had a significant role on the Minnesota Twins. While he didn’t make the start on opening day, Alex Cole was the center fielder in the first full season after Kirby Puckett had moved to right field in 1994. Puckett had been the Twins center fielder since 1984.

No Twins center fielder other than Puckett has played 10 full seasons at the position. Toeii Hunter came closest with 9, but the next closest was Ted Uhlaender with 4 seasons. Byron Buxton is in his second full season at the position, and certainly Twins fans are hoping that he will be so good that he will surpass Puckett’s 10-year run at the position.
