One Last Thing

Nick Gordon’s big night for Chattanooga left him just a home run short of the cycle. He finished with 8 total bases on the game on five hits.

I took a look at how many times a Twin had at least 5 hits and 8 total bases in a game. This had happened 21 times in the history of the franchise. Joe Mauer and Kirby Puckett have the most with 3 such games apiece. Jacque Jones and Denny Hocking each had two. None of the players with 5 hits and at least 8 total bases had completed a cycle, however.

That led to searching for the amount of cycles in Twins history, which is 10. No player has ever completed more than one cycle as a Twins player. No player had more than 4 hits to accomplish their cycle, however. The last was Michael Cuddyer in 2009, which interestingly was roughly a month after Jason Kubel also had a cycle and roughly a year after Carlos Gomez accomplished the feat. Before Gomez’s cycle on May 7th, 2008, the last cycle was Kirby Puckett on August 1st, 1986.
