Rangers acquire C Jonathan Lucroy and RHP Jeremy Jeffress from the Brewers for  CF Lewis Brinson, RHP Luis Ortiz, and PTBNL (2016)

The Rangers made a headline worthy trade for the stretch run in 2016 as they acquired both Jonathan Lucroy and Jeremy Jeffress. Lucroy provided another bat in the lineup and an upgrade at the catcher position for the first place Rangers. Jeffress was not exactly the center piece of the deal. But he was another very nice piece to add to the Ranger’s bullpen.

Going the Brewers way was two highly regarded prospects in CF Lewis Brinson and RHP Luis Ortiz. Brinson was considered among the top 30 prospects. At the same time, Ortiz was considered among the top 60 prospects at the time of the trade last season. Both were very nice additions as the Brewers looked to strengthen their farm system.

You are going to start sensing a theme about what I like about many of these trades. These two players helped the Rangers in the short term. They will also help in the longer term helping justify giving up the quality prospects they did. Rangers control Lucroy through 2017 and Jeffress through 2018.
