The Minnesota Twins have sent Jorge Polanco back to AAA.

Following today’s game it was announced that Jorge Polanco was being sent back to AAA Rochester.

Polanco was sent down to make room for Tyler Duffey. Tyler is spot starting for the Twins tomorrow because Ervin Santana has a stiff back.

Earlier today in our piece on the Duffey/Santana news, we said we believed that either Max Kepler or Jorge Polanco would be sent to down to make room. Polanco was the eventual choice.

Polanco was originally called up a few days ago in the wake of the injury to Trevor Plouffe. In the four games he’s appeared in, Polanco has 1 hit, an RBI and a walk in 6 ABs.

Polanco wasn’t expected to be with the big club for very long as Plouffe injury is not serious but it wasn’t expected that his stint would be this short. The need to skip a start for Ervin Santana threw a bit of a wench in the plans for Polanco.

Jorge will return to Rochester where he’s has a .859 OPS in 10 games. Still a work in progress defensively, Polanco has made 3 errors over that time.

This move means that the Twins will have a short bench for the next few games until Danny Santana is activated from the 15 day disabled list. Polanco acted a back up middle infielder. It shouldn’t pose a problem over such a short term. The Twins have a variety of options and alignments that they could utilize to tide them over a few days.
