Twins Continue to Struggle Against the Tigers

The Minnesota Twins are currently tied for the fifth best record in the American League with a 19-16 record. They are currently in third place in the American League Central. They are three games back of the first place, Kansas City Royals and two games behind the second place Detroit Tigers.

Did anybody think that this team would be 19-16 after they started the season 1-6? The Twins turnaround has been impressive. It’s still very early in the season and nobody is expecting this team to contend for a playoff spot this season. However, nobody thought that they would be three games over .500 after starting 1-6. A wise man once said, anything is possible.

If the Twins want to get over the hump and be taken seriously as a contender, they are going to have to figure out a way to beat the Tigers. The Tigers have owned them this season.

It all started with the opening series of the season. A three game set in which the Tigers outscored the Twins, 22-1. Overall, the Twins are 2-7 against the Tigers. They are 17-9 against everybody else.

Against the rest of the Central, the Twins are 12-7, including a 3-3 mark against the first place Royals. If the Twins can continue to perform well against the Central, they’ll be playing meaningful games in August and September. They first need to figure out a way to beat those pesky Tigers.
