Minnesota Twins Inquire About Justin Masterson

Can you smell that? Ahh, it’s the smell of the free agency that is drifting through the baseball air. Not a whole lot of deals are being signed right now, but, oh, how the rumors they are flying.

According to Darren Wolfson of KSTP, the Minnesota Twins have expressed interest into Justin Masterson. Masterson might be a familiar name after he spent six years with the rival Cleveland Indians in the American League Central.

Masterson did not have a great 2014. Masterson finished the year with a 7-9 record, 5.88 ERA and a 1.632 WHIP. Masterson split his year between the Indians and the St. Louis Cardinals. He was dealt from Cleveland to St. Louis on July 30 in exchange for a minor leaguer (James Ramsey).

Masterson was granted free agency on October 30.

2014 can be seen as the worst year of Masterson’s career. In 2013, the right-handed pitcher made the American League All-Star game. Masterson finished 2013 with a 14-10 record, a 3.45 ERA and a 1.632 WHIP.

It should be a very busy offseason for the Minnesota Twins and I don’t think anyone can sneeze at the thought of bringing in another arm. Seriously, any arm. An arm preferably not attached to Ricky Nolasco.
