Minnesota Twins Game 70: Lineups and First Impressions

facebooktwitterreddit

The Minnesota Twins are taking the field for a weekday matinée game today with the Boston Red Sox.  Fresh off another strong outing by Phil Hughes, the Twins will be looking for the offense that has eluded them in recent games.  Scoring only one run last night, the Twins will be hoping the day game brings the bats alive.

On the mound for the Twins will be Kyle Gibson, who, like Hughes, is coming off a stellar performance in his last start.  Opposing him for the Boston Red Sox will be John Lackey.

Boston has been held in check, for the most part, by Twins pitchers, but it is going to take Minnesota putting some runs on the board to get the win today.

Take a look at how both teams will line up:

Minnesota Twins (32-37)

1. Danny Santana CF

2. Brian Dozier 2B

3. Joe Mauer 1B

4. Josh Willingham LF

5. Kendrys Morales DH

6. Chris Parmelee RF

7. Eduardo Escobar 3B

8. Eric Fryer C

9. Pedro Florimon SS

Boston Red Sox (33-38)

1. Brock Holt RF

2. Xander Bogaerts 3B

3. Dustin Pedroia 2B

4. David Ortiz DH

5. Mike Napoli 1B

6. Daniel Nava LF

7. A.J. Pierzynski C

8. Stephen Drew SS

9. Jackie Bradley Jr. CF

First Impressions:

  • As the Twins continue to struggle to find any semblance of an offense, todays lineup features names like Pedro Florimon and Eric Fryer.  Definitely a head scratcher, it seems like Ron Gardenhire may be hoping for something to stick.
  • Kyle Gibson has a shot at another good start against an underwhelming Boston Red Sox club that was held in check by Phil Hughes last night
  • The Twins have yet to fall 6 games below the .500 mark and with a loss today, they would be looking at that outcome for the first time in 2014.
  • Minnesota needs a win today in order to avoid the first series sweep at the hands of an AL East team all season.

Game Time:

First pitch is scheduled for 12:35 pm CST and the game will be televised on Fox Sports North.

Should you not be able to tune in to the game, listen to the Twins on the Twins Radio Network.
