Apr 5, 2014; Cleveland, OH, USA; Minnesota Twins manager Ron Gardenhire (35) is doused with beer by his team after the Twins beat the Cleveland Indians 7-3 for Gardenhire
The Minnesota Twins beat the Cleveland Indians earlier today 7 to 3, bringing the Twins one game closer to a .500 record at 2-3. However, the bigger story of the day was Ron Gardenhire notching his 1000th win as a manager in the MLB. After narrowly missing the mark by two games in 2013, Gardy’s two year extension in the off-season bought him the games for the team to get it done.
Gardenhire is one of only 60 managers in MLB history to win 1000 games and even more impressively, is one of only 10 managers to win those 1000 games with just one team (Tom Kelly being one of those ten). He sports a 1000-950 career record, good for a .513 career winning percentage, and he won the AL Manager of the Year in 2010 after finishing 2nd in voting in 2003, 2004, 2006, 2008 and 2009. Here’s his record breakdown over his 13 year career.
– 94-67
– 90-72
– 92-70
– 83-79
– 96-66
– 79-83
– 88-75
– 87-76
– 94-68
– 63-99
– 66-96
– 66-96
– 2-3 and counting. Hopefully the team can rack up a bunch more wins these next two years too!
