Plouffe A Late Scratch As Twins Prepare To Face Indians

I do not often claim to be able to identify with professional athletes. I played baseball and I love baseball, but I rarely believe that means I understand what they are going through.

Having said that, I absolutely believe I can relate to a thumb injury. Partially because I had a nagging thumb injury as a player myself, but mostly because I believe anybody can relate to that problem.

You know when you jam your thumb or something. It always hurts a lot worse than you think it should or ever would, right? And then, when you are decidedly slower trying to perform every single stinking mundane task of your day, from opening your car door to brushing your teeth to eating your breakfast to typing an email, you think to yourself, “Man, it’s like I forgot how important my thumb is. Thinking of you, evolution.”

Is that just me? Anyone else? Anybody?

Anyway…I am surprised, if Plouffe does indeed hit the disabled list, that it took this long. Here is Ron Gardenhire’s lineup sans his emergent corner infielder:

Denard Span CF
Ben Revere RF
Joe Mauer C
Josh Willingham LF
Justin Morneau 1B
Ryan Doumit DH
Brian Dozier SS
Jamey Carroll 3B
Alexi Casilla 2B
Scott Diamond P

The Cleveland Indians will look to continue to build momentum after taking a series from the Detroit Tigers at home. Here is manager Manny Acta’s starting lineup:

Shin-Soo Choo RF
Asdrubal Cabrera SS
Jason Kipnis 2B
Michael Brantley CF
Carlos Santana 1B
Travis Hafner DH
Jose Lopez 3B
Shelley Duncan LF
Lou Marson C
Josh Tomlin P

Honestly, I have to cut the analysis short. As a Colorado Rockies fan, the fact that Jose Lopez is still playing baseball…professionally… is a bit much for me to take. I need to go lie down.
