Over the next however long it takes I am going to be rolling out my Twins Top 15 prospects list here at Twinkie Talk. When that’s all said and done I will have a special top 100 prospects list for you all. Today’s prospect is #15 Matt Bashore
Who: Matt Bashore
Position: LHP
How Acquired: 2009 Draft (Sandwich Round)
Highest Level in 2009: NCAA
Matt Bashore enjoyed a pretty good career at Indiana University, who last year had one of the best weekend rotations in all of college baseball (Bashore’s teammate Eric Arnett was an 09 1st rounder). Bashore struck out over a batter an inning last year, but he walked way too many guys as well.
Bashore throws in the high 80s to low 90s with his fastball, which has some pretty good sink on it. He doesn’t have a very good secondary pitch right now, although some scouts have said that his curveball could eventually get there.
Bashore strikes me as the type of pitcher the Twins love to draft: a pitchability guy who is going to be able to throw strikes and keep the ball low. Even though he’ll be 22 entering his first pro season, I think he has a long ways to go before he is ready to be a big league pitcher.
