Zack Attack

First of all, is that not the greatest T shirt ever? I’m not even a Royals fan and I would buy that thing.
Zack Greinke and the Royals shut down the Tigers today to take the series with them 2-1, just a week after sweeping them. Greinke only threw 5 as he was taken out for precautionary reasons after being hit by a linedrive, but he allowed 0 runs and struck out 8 in those innings. Greinke absolutely has to be the AL Cy Young this year and is the only person who even belongs in the same conversation as Joe Mauer this year.2.34 FIP, 216 strikeouts (9.47/9) 8.3 WAR. Unreal. Zach Greinke has been worth more than the entire Royals offense this year. (h/t to Beyond the Boxscore for that stat)
The hitting hero of the day was Miguel Olivo, who hit a 3 run homer in the 3rd to make it 3-0 and the Royals never looked back.
So the Tigers go into this weekend’s series up 4 games on the Twins. Justin Verlander on Saturday is the only pitching matchup that truly makes me nervous. Rick Porcello on the surface is having a good year, but a large portion of that is attributable to the defense, and seeing as he only throws one pitch effectively I like the Twins chances in that game.
Today’s odds of the Twins making the 2009 Playoffs: 19.9%
