Twins Pitching Perspectives (3/3-3/9)
Â
The Twins finished their week with a 5-2 record counting both their WBC exhibition games.
Â
Scott Baker pitched on Tuesday against Puerto Rico and Saturday against Pittsburgh. He threw 7.0 innings allowing 9 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, 1 home run and struck out 6. It was an excellent week of work from the default ace of the rotation.
Â
Francisco Liriano pitched on Wednesday against Pittsburgh and Sunday against Baltimore. Both starts for Liriano were excellent totaling 7.0 innings allowing only 2 hits, no runs, no walks, and struck out 7.
Â
Kevin Slowey pitched on Thursday against the Netherlands and Monday against Tampa Bay. For the week he tallied 6.1 innings allowing 4 hits, 2 runs, no walks, and 6 strike outs. His 3.0 innings against the Dutch were perfect with 2 strikeouts. He got touched up against the Rays, but did strike out 4 without allowing a walk.
Â
Nick Blackburn rested his knee this week and did not pitch. Threw a bullpen session on Thursday and reported no pain in his knee.
Â
Glen Perkins pitched on Friday against Cincinnati. He threw 4.0 innings allowing only 1 hit, no runs, walked 2 and struck out 2.
Â
The Twins followed up an excellent 1st week in which they posted a 3.46 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP with an even more impressive 2nd week. The most encouraging sign from their latest work is they struck out almost a batter per inning after only striking out 4 in 13 innings last week. All 4 starters had at least one superb outing.
