INF Edouard Julien

It seemed Julien, 26, would be the Twins’ everyday second baseman for the foreseeable future following his rookie campaign in 2023, where he posted 2.6 bWAR with an .839 OPS. He had a great postseason that year as well, going 5-for-17 with one home run and five walks.

However, Julien was demoted to Triple-A twice in 2024 due to immense struggles at the plate, and he spent most of the 2025 campaign in Triple-A St. Paul as well. He was productive in 70 games with the Saints last year, slashing .276/.415/.464 with 11 home runs and 34 RBI in 299 plate appearances, but he failed to prove he still belongs in the big leagues in 64 games with the Twins, slashing .220/.309/.324 with three homers and 12 RBI across 208 plate appearances.

Julien also regressed defensively last season, going from -4 Outs Above Average in 2024 to -8 Outs Above Average during the 2025 campaign.

If the Twins end up needing to clear some space on their 40-man roster soon, Julien will be in danger of losing his spot.

INF/C Mickey Gasper

Likely in even more danger of losing his 40-man roster spot than Julien, Gasper, 30, hit .158/.257/.232 (37 OPS+) with two homers, one double and 11 RBI in 110 plate appearances across 45 games with Minnesota last season. Gasper making the big leagues as a 29-year-old last season was a cool story, as he previously had logged just 23 MLB plate appearances, all in 2024 with the Boston Red Sox.

Although Gasper was a below-average player last year, he played a vital role as the Twins' catcher when Christian Vázquez and Ryan Jeffers were sidelined with injuries. The Twins didn't need an impact bat behind the plate, considering playoff hopes were long gone at that point. They just needed someone to provide innings at the position, which Gasper did.

Still, there is no reason for Gasper to be on the Twins' 26-man or 40-man roster next season. Minnesota already has Jeffers and Alex Jackson to hold down the catcher position, and Jhonny Pereda likely is a better option behind the plate than Gasper.

Gasper doesn't provide much value as an infielder, either. Therefore, the Twins should move on from the journeyman.
