Max Kepler named Southern League MVP
Minnesota Twins prospect, Max Kepler, has been named the Southern League MVP. Kepler, the Twins number six overall prospect led the Southern League in batting average, slugging percentage and on-base percentage.
The Chattanooga Lookouts outfielder hit .327, with 73 runs, 32 doubles, 12 triples, nine home runs and swiped 18 bases. He has a smooth swing and hits the ball over the park.
The German native had breakout season in Double-A. He seems to be ahead of the curve and could make his big league debut at some point this month when the Lookouts season comes to an end.
Mad Max has played all three-outfield positions and has spent time playing first base.
The Twins signed Kepler in 2009 and his breakout season has been a pleasant surprise. Before the season he was ranked as the Twins number 14 prospect. His play has jumped him up to number six, via MLB.com.
Byron Buxton and Miguel Sano all started the season in Double-A. They are now playing a major part in the Twins quest for the playoffs. Kepler has an outside chance to join his former teammates later this month to help the Twins make the playoffs for the first time since 2010.
It’s easy to be excited about players like Buxton, Sano, Jose Berrios, and Eddie Rosario. But, Kepler’s season for the Lookouts should get Twins fans excited about his future and the future of the Twins outfield.
