Minnesota Twins Activate Eduardo Nunez, Kenny Vargas to AAA

According to reports, the Minnesota Twins have sent Kenny Vargas to Triple-A and have activated utility man, Eduardo Nunez from the disabled list. Nunez was placed on the disabled list on April 30th with an oblique injury.

Vargas being sent down is a bit of shocker. After getting off to a slow start, he appeared to be turning a corner. He was hitting .375 in the month of May with two home runs and six runs batted in. He had hit safely in nine of twelve games. Compared to his April numbers when he hit just .232 with one home run and four runs batted in.

Nunez had played in seven games this year before landing on the disabled list. He was hitting .409 with two runs batted in. The utility man has spent time playing third base, left field and designated hitter.

The Twins will now have a pair of versatile Eduardo’s on the team. With Escobar and Nunez they have two valuable utility players that can play multiple positions. Escobar has already played second base, third base, shortstop and left field this season. Having two players like that will give Paul Molitor flexibility when filling out his lineup card.
