On July 19th the move everyone knew was coming was made official as Chris Colabello rejoined the Minnesota Twins 25-man roster. In addition to the return of CC, last Friday and Saturday included a demotion, a DL activation, a release and the assignment of a 2013 draft pick.

July 19th:

Recalled to Minnesota (from Rochester): 1B/OF Chris Colabello (29) – returns to the Twins for the third time this season. While I’m sure he’s happy to be back in the bigs, his call-up puts his pursuit of the International League Triple-Crown on hold. A participant in the Triple-A All-Star game he went 1-3 with a double and RBI. His journey and ascent from seven years in the Canadian-American Association to dominant AA and AAA force is without question one of the best stories in baseball. Unfortunately he’s been unable to replicate that success with the parent club. On the season he’s just 5-37 with no walks and 14 strikeouts in 13 major league games and is 3-21 in his latest stint with the team.

Activated from 7-day DL by Fort Myers: LHP Matt Tomshaw (24) – spent the minimum seven days on the disabled list and returned to pitch 2.0 hitless, shutout innings. He took the mound as a starter on the 24th and went 7.0 innings, allowed four hits, one walk and two runs while striking out six. It turned out to be one of his best starts since joining the FSL at the end of May.

July 20th:

Assigned to Cedar Rapids (from Fort Myers): DH Mike Gonzales (25) – had 10 hits in his last 22 FSL at bats before he landed on the disabled list at the end of April. He returned to game action on July 13th in the GCL and hit 0.321/.421/.500 in a five game tuneup before making his way to Cedar Rapids. Since joining the Kernels lineup he’s 6-16 with a double and two home runs in four games.

Released by GCL Twins:  RHP Markus Solbach (21) – signed out of Germany prior to the 2011 season and has spent the last three seasons pitching in the GCL as well as time in the Frontier and Australian Baseball Leagues. He had a 0.96 ERA and 0.96 WHIP over 9.1 innings in rookie ball this season. All told he has a 2.96 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 36-10 SO-to-BB in 54.2 IP.

Assigned to GCL Twins: LHP Seth Wagner (18) – signed on July 12th after being selected by the Twins in the 39th round this year. He is still waiting to make his professional debut.
