Happy Holidays to all of the Puckett’s Pond readers. We hope each and every one of you find something to lift your spirits during the holiday season.

If you’re a young person from my generation, you can never really feel the holiday spirit without watching Home Alone. To kick off this week’s version of the Thursday Links, here is a list of 12 things you probably didn’t know about Home Alone. And if you DID know all 12 of these things, let me know, I’ll mail you something awesome.

Last week I presented a link to the All True Twins team from Beyond the Boxscore. This week, Beyond the Boxscore presents the All All-True-Team Team. The Senator’s Walter Johnson is the only player from the Twins franchise to make the list. I had to look him up at Baseball-Reference, as he was a bit before my time, but with 127.7 career WAR, he’s a total stud (Here is another interesting character from the Washington Senator’s history, one that played just before Johnson arrived in Washington).

This one is a little more than a week old, but something I hadn’t stumbled upon until some time during the last week. Target Field has earned a LEED Silver Certification. Not only is Target Field the

BREAKING NEWS: Manny Ramirez Retires

Former Indian, Red Sox, Dodger, White Sox and Ray Manny Ramirez retired today amid new drug allegations

TAMPA — He may not have ever been a Twin, but he was a big part of the AL Central and the American League as a whole.

This time, it’s not Manny being Manny. The former Red Sox, Dodger and Indian is calling it quits after the Rays slow start.

Major League Baseball made the announcement today.

The move isn’t all that surprising considering his age and his recent lack of productivity, but it’s still sad to see a character like Manny go.

He began his in 1993 playing for the Cleveland Indians, a team he stayed with until 2000 when he made the famous switch to the Boston Red Sox where he made his name.

Manny had 546 career homers and 12 All-Star appearances.

The move for Manny to retire may be motivated by him being contacted by MLB about a possible drug conduct violation. If Ramirez violated the policy, it would be the second time he has done so.

Whether or not that had anything to do with Ramirez retiring will be determined in the coming days, but as we all know, Manny isn’t going to do something he doesn’t want to and serving out another suspension is on his list of things he’s (more…)

How Manny Ramirez Might Affect the AL Central Race

No, Manny isn’t a Southsider yet, but it seems to be just a matter of time. The Dodgers sit 10 games out of first place, and 4.5 games out of the wild card, and they’ll need to sweep the Rockies this weekend and hope the Padres, Phillies, Giants, and Cardinals collapse and, yeah, they’re not going anywhere. Manny will be in Chicago by Tuesday. What this means for the Sox and the pennant race, after the jump. (more…)
