Taking a look at the best and worst Minnesota Twins fantasy baseball options for the upcoming series against the Rockies and Royals.

The Minnesota Twins are in 1st place, hopefully the same is true for your fantasy team. Maybe it is simply the success that the Twins are having, but I am actually optimistic on the fantasy potential for the team this week.

It is a bit of a tricky week to get a read on how the batters might fair this week due to a limited track record with the incoming starting pitchers. Those pitchers will be representing the Colorado Rockies and Kansas City Royals as their respective teams visit Target Field.

This week the Twins will face 5 righties and 1 lefty. Therefore the numbers reflect what your eyes may have already told you. Which has resulted in the optimism that will drip from this article. The Twins have found better success against right handed pitching then left this season.

Upcoming Probable Opposing Starters

Rockies:

Kyle Freeland

German Marquez

Tyler Chatwood

Royals:

Nate Karns

Chris Young

Jason Hammel

Play Them:

Kennys Vargas: Vargas continues to look like a good addition to the lineup. In addition, this is the type of week made for him. Vargas fares much better batting from the left side hitting .313/.333/.719 with all 4 of his homers coming from that side.

Max Kepler: New guy, similar story as Vargas. Kepler bats .276/.385/.461 when facing right handers. He also has all 3 HR against righties. Here to hoping Saturday’s home run helps break the mini slump Kepler has found himself in.

Jorge Polanco: There are lots of guys I could have put here, but wanting to stay away from the obvious here is a stat dig. Polanco’s batting numbers increase significantly against right handed starters slashing .271/.329/.357.

Pine Them:

Brian Dozier: Dozier just seems to be struggling. Hence the numbers show him hitting .238/.337/.538 against right handed starters and .233/.333./407 overall against righties. A couple of weeks ago I had hoped Dozier would bust out of this early season slump, but it just doesn’t seem to be happening yet.

Robbie Grossman: I always worry about Grossman getting starts. Making it hard to start him regularly. His slash line against right handers is .227/.358/.386. Strangely, all his power has came against right handers. Seems like a true all or nothing play for him this week.

Phil Hughes: Just in case you were tempted to play Hughes in a two start week. The Royals got to him earlier this year in a start where he went 5.2 innings, allowing 4 earned runs, and a home run.

Next: Santiago Needs to Bounce Back after Loss.

In conclusion, it looks like a good week for the Twins to try and put some distance between them and their division foes. Hopefully you are able to do the same in your fantasy leagues this week.
