The Minnesota Twins tied the Pirates in Grapefruit league action today

More from Puckett's Pond

The Minnesota Twins and the Pittsburgh Pirates could not determine a winner over 9 innings this afternoon in Bradenton, Florida. The two teams remained locked at twos when the ninth was completed. In Spring Training games, teams don’t bother to play extra innings if the score is tied. The Twins’ Grapefruit league record will remain at 1-1. It’s almost as if today’s game never happened… (spooky)

Tommy Milone got the start for the Twins. He went the expected 2 innings and allowed 4 hits, 1 earned run, walked none and struck out 3. Ryan Pressly, Fernando Abad, Brandon Kintzler, Alex Meyer, Pat Dean and Ryan O’Rourke put up zeroes behind him. Mason Melotakis allowed a run in his inning.

The Pirates got on the board early with a run in the first. Pittsburgh’s pitching was also sharp today as they allowed just one run in the 4th inning before giving up the go ahead run in the 9th.

The Pirates responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the 9th to force the tie and hand Melotakis a blown save.
