Can the Minnesota Twins stop the bleeding?

The Minnesota Twins have now lost five straight games, which matches a season high. After getting swept by the Toronto Blue Jays in a four-game series the Twins travel to Cleveland to take on the Indians in a three-game series.

The Twins are 54-54 and .500 for the first time since May 12. They are currently three games back of the Blue Jays for the second Wild Card spot in the American League.

After a rough series, it will be interesting to see how the Twins respond on the road against a division rival.

Three players to watch

  1. Mike Pelfrey pitched eight scoreless innings in his last start against the Seattle Mariners. The Twins will need him to be on top of his game in the first game of the series to hopefully put a stop to the losing streak. But, Pelfrey is 2-5 with a 5.68 earned run average on the road this season. Pelfrey made one start this season in Cleveland and got the win, pitching seven innings and giving up two runs.
  2. Brian Dozier has just four hits in his last seven games. He’s hitting .138 with 11 strikeouts. The Twins desperately need him to get back on track.
  3. Just like Dozier, Joe Mauer is struggling at the plate. In the last seven games he’s hitting .111 with nine strikeouts. Its no wonder the Twins have lost five straight. The Twins need the former MVP to catch fire.
