On the day the new “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” trailer was released, it’s fitting that the bats for the Minnesota Twins awakened. Behind a solid offensive outing, the Twins picked up their first series win by beating the Royals, 8-5.

Entering the game the Twins had recorded just three home runs. They got a pair of two-run blasts today against the Royals. The first one came off the bat of, Kenny Vargas in the bottom of the second that tied the game at two apiece. The second one came in the bottom of the eighth inning off the bat of catcher, Kurt Suzuki. Suzuki’s two-run blast extended the Twins lead t0 7-3.

Torii Hunter was 3-22 to start the season as the Twins cleanup hitter. Yesterday, Paul Molitor made a change, moving Hunter from cleanup to the two hole in the Twins lineup. Hunter has responded by going 4-8, including a three hit performance today.

Joe Mauer continued his good start to the 2015 season by picking up three RBIs. Mauer has hit safely in eight of nine games to start the season. While Mauer doesn’t have any extra base hits thus far, it’s hard to be upset with his production to start the season.

The Twins looked to be in for another long series after dropping the first game of the series, 12-3. But, the Twins bounced back by taking the next two games against the hottest team in baseball. The Twins will look to stay hot with the Cleveland Indians coming to town this weekend.
