Minnesota Twins President Named To North Dakota Nickname Committee

It’s been weird for a couple years in North Dakota. Okay, it’s possibly always been weird in North Dakota, but one of the weirdest things is the fact that the University of North Dakota does not have a nickname for their sports teams at the moment.

The Former Fighting Sioux are now in the process of finding just the right name for their school. A face of the Minnesota Twins is helping with the search.

UND alumnus and president of the Twins Dave St. Peter is on a 11-person committee that will find the new nickname. The Grand Forks Herald reports the following are the other members of the committee: Karl Goerhring, Jazmyn Friesz, Landon Bahl, John Bridewell, Carla Christofferson, Diane Hillebrand, Dayo Idowu, Dr. Leander “Russ” McDonald, Chelsea Moser and Lowell Schweigert.

These folks will be responsible for finding a new name for our neighbors to the north. The group features a good split went current students, student-athletes, a professor and alumni.

If you follow Dave St. Peter on Twitter, you know all about his love for UND and the hopes that someday that there could possibly be a University of Minnesota Golden Gophers and UND Something or Others playing a hockey game right outside St. Peter’s office at Target Field. It’d be quite cool.

Or any hockey game at Target Field. I know TCF Bank got one, but let’s get multiple. Go big or go home.

You can follow St. Peter of Twitter: @TwinsPrez.
