Mauer Clutch In First Game Back As Minnesota Twins Win

Welcomes need to be give all around in the Minnesota Twins effort on Monday night in Houston. Welcome to Tommy Milone who put in a valiant effort in his first outing in a Minnesota Twins outing and a welcome back to Joe Mauer who, believe it or not, hit a clutch single that won the game for the Twins.

The Astros and Twins were tied up at twos in the ninth inning when Joe Mauer hit a single to left center that scored a pair to give the Twins a 4-2 lead and eventual 4-2 victory. Mauer went 2-for-4 on the night with a double earlier in the game in his first appearance since July 1.

Tommy Milone had a nice six inning two-run outing for his Twins debut. The former A’s pitcher gave up eight hits in the ballgame, but only two of those hits really accounted for anything. The two runs the Astros scored were off of solo homers: Jose Altuve in the first and Chris Carter in the fifth.

The two shortstops that find themselves in the lineup every day for the Twins were impressive again. Danny Santana went 3-for-5 while patrolling center field and Eduardo Escobar went 2-for-3 with two more doubles bringing him to 31 doubles on the year.

Here’s the boxscore to the Twins second victory in a row.
