The Minnesota Twins have been looking for a David Ortiz since the Twins we all found out what David Ortiz was after he went to Boston. David Ortiz was never the David Ortiz we know now when he was with Minnesota, but the Twins might have someone that could possibly blossom into an Ortiz-type. An Ortiz, Jr., if you will.
The franchise did what they used to rarely do and called up a player straight from Double-A to the majors on Thursday. When the Twins sent Sam Fuld back to Oakland, the team needed another position player for the roster. That player is the slugging Kennys Vargas.
Maybe it’s the physical resemblance with the same vein of power, but Minnesota Twins fans should be really excited about Vargas.
In 97 games this year with Double-A New Britain, Vargas has hit 17 home runs with a line of .281/.360/.472. That’s enough to get my attention and it really should get the attention of Twins fans.
Let the presence of Kennys Vargas get you interested again in Twins baseball. It’s the beginning of the future with Vargas, Arcia and hopefully a couple of starting arms sooner than later.
Injuries might have pushed back the Twins return to mainstream prominence a little bit, but the future is starting to arrive. It’s just a matter if Twins fans want to look into the future or not.
