It’s part the signing of Kendrys Morales, part a little bit of recent struggles. After the Minnesota Twins victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday, the Twins announced they had optioned Josmil Pinto to Triple-A Rochester.
The Twins did not announce a corresponding move, but one will come before the Twins play again on Friday when they take on the Detroit Tigers. It is more than likely that the Twins will be calling up a catcher with Kurt Suzuki being the only one now on the roster. Chris Herrmann or Eric Fryer are the candidates for promotion.
The move splits Twins fans down the middle. Some agree with the move, citing that Pinto needs more at-bats and more experience behind the plate. Others want the potent bat that Pinto has to stay with the big league club and help with what could be an interesting summer.
So far this season Pinto is hitting: .222/.323/.407 with 16 RBI and seven home runs.
Pinto is still seen as the catcher of the future for the Twins. Pinto was finding it hard to break into the lineup with Kurt Suzuki having an All-Star caliber season and now wouldn’t see much time at DH with Kendrys Morales in the fold.
