Minnesota Twins Acquire Eduardo Nunez

The Twins made a trade and it wasn’t with the Pittsburgh Pirates. It was announced on Monday afternoon that the Minnesota Twins have acquired Eduardo Nunez from the New York Yankees in exchange for Miguel Sulbaran.

Miguel Sulbaran had pitched in one game for the Cedar Rapids Kernels this year. Sulbaran is left-handed and has the same exact birthday as myself. Sulbaran had come over in the trade that sent Drew Butera to the Los Angeles Dodgers last season.

Eduardo Nunez will be added to the 40-man roster and will be assigned to Triple-A Rochester. This is all coming after Nunez had asked the Yankees for his release. Nunez was once seen as the guy that was going to replace Derek Jeter and now he has fallen to the Rochester Red Wings and possibly being a stop gap until the young guns come and take the Twins to the Promised Land.

Nunez has seen time at the major league in four straight seasons, playing in 112 in 2011 and in 90 in 2013. Nunez has a career slash line of .267/.313/.379.with only 10 home runs and 76 RBI. He does have 48 stolen bases in 270 career games. Nunez has had a positive WAR only once, with a 0.4 WAR in 2012 when he only played 38 games.

Nunez in the field has played 152 games at short, 78 games at third, 20 games at second and eight games in the outfield.
