I’ve never been questioned as a fan of Delmon Young. Throwing a bat at an umpire in the minor leagues just sets you up as a bad guy in my mind. Young has had moments of greatness like the 2012 American League Championship Series, but has never been able to sustain any success. In fact, Young has only once had a WAR over one, 1.6 in 2010 for the Minnesota Twins.
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reported this on Sunday night:
Delmon Young working out at 1B with the goal of increasing his versatility for interested clubs. He is 100 percent healthy and weighs 219.

A couple things hit me: Delmon Young weighing 219 pounds is something I will only believe if I see pictures and video of Young at said weight and this is a really good idea for Delmon.
We could go back in the Twitter archives and see that I said something to the effect of Delmon being a statue in leftfield. Moving to first would help out the statue status, not to mention the possible weight loss.
I doubt Young will grab a starting job in the majors at first right off the bat, but if he keeps his weight inline I would suspect that he’d be on a major league roster sometime in 2014.
It’s weird for me to be advocating Delmon Young, but it’s the truth. Good luck on your new endeavor, Mr. Young.
