Clete Thomas Signs With the Philadelphia Phillies

We all have to deal with loss at times in our lives, but I wasn’t prepared for this one.

Clete Thomas will no longer be a member of the Minnesota Twins. According to MLB.com, Clete Thomas signed a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training with the Philadelphia Phillies.

One of the best names in baseball will no longer be patrolling the outfield of Target Field. Let that sink in for a little bit.

As much as we joke about Clete Thomas, he did his job and was a worthy soldier. Thomas was actually a 0.1 WAR in 2013, which is probably the most accurate representation of Clete Thomas’ time in Minnesota.

Thomas spent two years in Minnesota, playing in 12 games in 2012 and 92 in 2013. In 2013, Thomas hit .214/.290/.307 with 13 RBI and four home runs. Thomas also played every outfield position this past year along with appearances at designated hitter.

My favorite Clete Thomas memory will be the fact that his walk-up song this past season was Garth Brooks’ ‘Rodeo’, which says more about the state of the Twins than Clete Thomas really.

From all of us at Puckett’s Pond we wish Clete Thomas the best.
