Joe Mauer and his wife Maddie welcomed their very own twins this morning! While the rest of the world was on Royal baby watch, Twins fans have been on Mauer babies watch! The Mauers welcomed twin girls Emily and Maren in the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 24th. The gender of the babies had not been revealed until Twins communications guy Dustin Morse posted this tweet this morning:

Joe was scratched from the lineup of last night’s game in Los Angeles and hopped on a plane back to Minneapolis. Chris Herrmann took over Mauer’s place as catcher and ended up hitting a game-winning grand slam in the 10th inning against the Angels.

Fortunately, Mauer made it home in time for the birth.

Joe and Maddie Mauer were married on December 1, 2012, and announced that Maddie was expecting twins on February 26, 2013. Maddie’s due date was August 31, 2013, but twins are commonly born early. Emily and Maren were born five weeks and three days early.

Drew Butera has been called up from Triple-A while Mauer takes his paternity leave.

No word yet on how Maddie and the girls are doing, but we will keep you updated as we know more.

Huge congratulations to the new parents!
