Hey, I'd even take a $20 million value season from Mauer. When you sign a free agent to a long term deal, you're almost always paying for past performance, and Mauer is no exception. His five great seasons from 2005 through 2009 are what made him a $23 million/year player. It's messed up, but it's the way the market works. I guarantee you that the Angels aren't going to get $250 million worth of value from Albert Pujols, either. But that's what happens when the system pays guys for what they've already done instead of what they're capable of doing. I’d take a $26.3 million season. Hey, I’d even take a $20 million value season from Mauer.
