I disagree on the Marquis signing. I think that was more about strengthening the bullpen than shoring up the starting rotation...and I think it had the effect of doing both. It allows the Twins to send Duensing to the pen fulltime where he is much better suited. Having Perkins and Duensing in middle relief, and all of a sudden that potential weakness is looking less like one. In the meantime, having seen Marquis pitch some, I think he is an upgrade over Duensing in that role. He is a pitch-to-contact guy, but has a very high ground ball ratio, is durable, and don't forget, does have a winning record.

Overall the starting rotation is still a big question mark. But, if Baker can breakthrough for an entire season, and if a healthy Mauer, Morneau and Span, with the upgraded bat at short along with Willingham, can bring some pop back to the offense...the rotation should be adequate for the Twins to contend.

Keeping Mauer and Morneau healthy will be the biggest obstacle.

that comes up to a C average overall, which I think that it is fair. Add to the list, "keeping all coaching and medical staff intact after a 99-loss season" and that C average drops mighty quickly...
