It is just the century. Back in the dawn era of baseball when guys were single handedly throwing 300-600 innings by themselves (yes there have been pitchers to log 600 innings in a single season) the mechanics were very simple, and they have 1-3 pitches to throw. The hitting was not as technical either. Just about every batter was up the the plate to swing and slap the ball (slap hitting was the only correct way to hit in the early days). Back then everything was very simple. Baseball today is very technical with pitchers trying their hardest to throw every fastball and every breaking ball to batters that are a mix of patient, slap, and power. Where as the level of play was so even and one dimensional 100-130 years ago, pitchers today are always getting their mechanics messed with and throw in very unconventional ways that harm the natural movements of the body. If you seen baseballs early footage, look at the way a baseball was thrown...side arm...a natural movement for the arm.

Twins trainers taking the blame would seem too easy, and I hope something doesn't come out giving that idea any more traction... but it's easy to hang the blame there
