The American League Championship Series opened at the Metrodome with Game 1.

Chili Davis knocked a two run single in the bottom of the first off Jays knuckleballer Tom Candiotti. In the second inning, Greg Gagne and Chuck Knoblauch added RBI singles of their own, and Shane Mack doubled in Davis in the third. Starter Jack Morris hit a rough patch in the sixth, but the bullpen came on to hold the lead.

The 1991 playoffs got off to a great start with a 5-4 Twins victory.
