Jim Thome is Coming Back

So sayeth Kelly Theiser:

The Twins announced Friday that they have agreed to terms on a one-year contact with Thome. The designated hitter’s deal is worth $3 million and includes performance bonuses based on plate appearances.

One year, $3 million plus incentives is pretty similar to the deal he signed last year, and a pretty good bargain for a player who slugged .627 with home runs in 340 plate appearances.  I wouldn’t expect a 40 year-old Thome to put up the same numbers this year, but he should still be a pretty productive hitter.  It also seems likely he will hit his 600th career home run as a Twin, something the front office no doubt took into consideration when deciding whether to bring back the future-hall-of-famer.  So, even if the rest of the season goes all to hell, at least watching Jimmers mash taters will give us something to look forward to.
