Baseball America Top 100 Prospects
Here is the list. For reference, the Twins on the list are: 19 – Aaron Hicks 58 – Wilson Ramos 61 – Kyle Gibson 94 – Miguel Sano I went through like 8 times and didn’t see Ben Revere’s name. So either I’m blind or BA is stupid. One of the two.
About The Hiatus
You may (or may not) have noticed the lack of posts recently. There is a very very simple reason for that….The Winter Olympics are on. I’ll be back in a week. Still have the last 7 prospects to get to, plus tons of season preview stuff. Don’t worry, you’ll be begging me to stop posting in a couple weeks.
Twins Sign Jimerson
The Twins have signed OF Charlson Jimerson to a minor league deal. Jimerson, who will be 30 in 2010, has just 9 major league AB. Last year in Newark (Indy ball), he hit .335/.387/.567. Good numbers, and he has decent enough tools, so hopefully he can do some good things in the minors for the Twins this year.
Nick Punto Day
Sigh. Today is Nick Punto day, the day where Andrew Kneeland of TwinsTarget said all Twins bloggers should write down their thoughts on Nick Punto. In truth, I don’t really want to do this at all because I’ve already burned so many calories defending Nick Punto, but I imagine I will be the only person defending him this time, so here we go. *A warning before I start: If you are under 18 or sensitive to obscene language or personal attacks, I’d stop reading now. First of all, Nick Punto’s career WAR is 8.6. His WAR per 162 games is [...]
Jacque Jones Is Back
The Twins have signed former (and I guess now current again) Twin Jacque Jones to a minor league deal. Jones also has an invitation to spring training. Star Tribune writer Joe Christensen tweeted that if Jacque doesn’t make the major league club (he won’t) he will have no problems playing in the minors. Jones hasn’t played in the majors since 2008, and this is basically just a PR move, but still Jones was one of my favorite Twins back in the day so it’s good to see him again. In other news, the twins have made their roster move corresponding [...]
Twins Sign Hudson
Per MLBTR, our long winter of discontent is over and Orlando Hudson has agreed to become the newest Minnesota Twin. Hudson has been a 2-3 WAR player over the course of his career, and a lot of that value is tied to his bat. He will be 32 in 2010, although since he’s not in a long-term deal that doesn’t matter too much. Marcel projects Hudson to be a +11 wRC+, meaning he would be 11% above average with the bat. Marcel is the most optimistic projection system by far however, as CHONE, which I think the best readily available [...]
Top 15 Prospects: #9
Who: Carlos Gutierrez Position: RHP How Acquired: 2008 draft, 1st round (28th overall) Highest Level In 2009: AA When the Twins drafted Carlos Gutierrez in 2008, he was a closer for the University of Miami. Needless to say, I was unhappy that the Twins drafted a college reliever in the first round, but since they had picked Aaron Hicks earlier and had a pick just two after him, I could understand. Fortunately, the Twins decided to turn Gutierrez into a starter. The results have been, for the most part, overwhelmingly positive. Although he struggled in AA last year (5.02 FIP, [...]
The Biggest Twins News You’ll Hear All Day
The Twins have released infielder Steven Tolleson off the 40 man roster. Tolleson has been claimed by the A’s. The former University of South Carolina star has a career .276/.368/.400 line in 5 minor league seasons. His best year was 2008 in New Britain when he went .300/.382/.466. No huge loss on this one. Tolleson doesn’t have the bat to be a starter and doesn’t have the glove to be a utility man. This move corresponded with the Jim Thome signing. Now, onto that other news: Sources have reported the Twins and Mauer are close to a 10 year deal, [...]
