I guess winning an MVP award, driving in 129, 111, 130, and 100 runs in four straight years and giving protection to Mauer has no value. Your article fails to take into account he was playing hurt a good part of last season. Also, The defensive metrics you're using are far from an exact science. I agree with you that trading Morneau might benefit the Twins in the long run for the right offer but to assert that he's given the Twins no surplus value when he's basically driven the team's offense along with Mauer for the past several seasons is ludicrous. You have to stretch your thinking past simple stat analysis sometimes. Morneau hasn’t given the Twins any surplus value?
