Piling On Dayton Moore

Probably 8 million MLB blogs have covered this topic, but I’m suffering from a bit of writer’s blog so I figured why the heck not. First, take a peek at this graph that shows both Yuniesky Betancourt and Jeff Francoeur’s WAR over the years.

Here are Betancourt UZR numbers over the course of his career:

1.1

.7

-1.1

-12.6

-8.2

Royals GM, who acquired Betancourt, had this fabulous quote: “The defensive statistics – I still really don’t understand how some of those statistics are evaluated, I really don’t. When you watch baseball games every single day, its very apparent who can play defensively and who can’t.”

Setting aside the absurdity of the quote itself – what GM admits he doesn’t get stats? – Dayton Moore just sent a decent sleeper arm, and the Royals #2 prospect for a guy who probably shouldn’t even be on a roster. Not only does he make around 1 million for the rest of the year, Betancourt is a guy that shouldn’t even be picked up on waivers if he was released.

Good on you, Dayton Moore. Twins fans everywhere thank you for squandering the potential good team you could have the next 5 years or so.

And good on you, Moron who picked the Royals to win the AL Central
